Darwin on ID

From his Autobiography:

"The old argument of design in nature, as given by Paley, which formerly seemed to me so conclusive, fails, now that the law of natural selection has been discovered. We can no longer argue that, for instance the beautiful hinge of bivalve shell must have been made by an intelligent being, like the hinge of a door by man. There seems to be no more design in the variability of organic being and in the action of natural selection, than in the course which the wind blows."

Note, "the old argument of design"--the ID people pretend like they are coming up with something new, when really they are simply rehashing arguments for the existence of God that have been around for centuries; and, thanks mainly to Darwin, are now thoroughly refuted.

Commmon ancestry of snap-trap plants infered from genetic analysis:

Of course you could argue that god made the genes that way, but that isn't science. Attempting to refute the hypothesis that there is no evidence of common ancestry (above article) IS science.

And so, reaction rears its ugly head.

Evolution in no way violates the second law of thermodynamics. We have speciation for the same reason we have more than one element in our universe: gravity drives the aggregation of hydrogen into stars, producing energy via nuclear fusion. This radiated electromagnetic energy allows for photosynthesis in adjacent planets (i.e. earth,) and makes possible the rise of self-replicating photosynthetic molecule clusters, the most effective of which procreate rapidly and eventually compete with each other, giving rise to carnivores and saprophytes, and eventually the full gamut of species on earth.

So to say that the second law of thermodynamics contradicts evolution is to say that it also contradicts the formation of stars, planets, and elements besides hydrogen. And that's dandy if you think that god put them where they are a few thousand years ago.

It'd be easier for everyone if you dropped your "scientific" pretenses and sincerely declared your pathetic subservience to your imaginary deity.
